Citizens are hereby advised that the City of Galax Public Works Department will collect large household solid waste items from residential customers the week of March 4 – 8, 2024. Items to be collected include the following: appliances such as old washers, dryers, televisions, refrigerators, mattresses, and furniture items such as sofas, chairs, mattresses, and case goods. Only two (2) large items per household will be allowed for pickup. All items must be from property within the City.
**TIRES WILL NOT BE COLLECTED **
Items not acceptable for collection include the following: barrels, hazardous materials, containerized liquid substances; automobiles and large auto parts or components; land clearing debris and yard debris; wire fencing and posts; metal roofing; scrap iron; satellite dishes; wood from disassembled or destroyed buildings; roofing materials; vinyl siding; building materials such as plywood and sheetrock; paint; and batteries.
Galax households desiring to use this service must have the items to be collected out no later than 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4th, 2024. The City will make every effort to pick up all eligible residential solid waste items during the week, however; additional collection days may be necessary.
